High Crag on Heyshaw moor has a dominant position overlooking the lower parts of Nidderdale and the villages of Summerbridge, Dacre and Darley.
The sun rises to the south in winter, so this is a great place to spend time at dawn photographing. There are two formidable balancing ‘mushroom’ rocks on the moor, the one in this photograph is about the size of an old Mini Cooper. Sculpted by wind and water, similar to the better known rocks at Brimham, this particular stone balances precariously on the edge of High Crags.  The view stretches almost to the Coast and sunrises are often spectacular when the weather comes in from the West and cloud clings stubbornly to the higher ground.
