Mupe is a jewel of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, albeit
a remote one. It’s a special sight seeing the coastline
unfold from Worbarrow on the left, Broad Bench,
Kimmeridge and St Aldhelm’s Head is the furthest right.
Normally I arrive in the dark and see the twilight
develop. On this stormy morning the golden light in
the sky was reflecting off the two foreground rocks.
My spotmeter read 0 throughout much of the scene,
but I knew they were different values of zero! So
filtration and exposure was guesswork in a one-shot
saloon. I chose just over 4 minutes.
The camera then took over for another 4 minutes
doing a dark shot, by which time the magic golden
storm light had gone. The light on the cliff is a house
at Kimmeridge.
