Nearer home this one. Monk Wood is an ancient wood in the Tyne Valley. It is small and planted on the side of a steep hill going down to the river. I’ve been going there for four years now and I’m gradually getting to know it better and better. This photograph was taken at the very beginning of November 2015. The following week, the winter started and that was that for another year. The trees are mainly sessile oaks and twisted almost beyond recognition. It’s a wonderful place, but to get the best out of it requires a considerable amount of effort.
