Twilight at either end of the day is one of my favourite
times to make pictures. It’s when magic can happen
during the long exposures needed to make
photographs, in this case two minutes. Here the wisp
of cloud moved into near alignment with the semisubmerged
rock ledge to mirror its shape. Soft colours
in the sky and moving water produce a calming
feeling. Prior to this, the sky was bright red and I’d shot
a much wider composition of what was a dramatic
scene that had me elated at the time. However, it is
this quieter, subtle image that has endured.
This is Kimmeridge in Dorset, a well-known and
frequently busy location with photographers, surfers,
canoeists, geologists and walkers.
