On the December morning this photograph was taken, a windless light snowfall had covered the landscape with a powdery coat of white. Over the years the trees have been shaped by wind and snow. The tree on the left of the picture has been broken down and gnarled by many previous winters’ weight of snow. The stone wall is the unusually tall boundary between the ancient woodland which hugs the undercliff and the managed moorland.
