This is the perfect workshop for new photographers interested in landscape photography and wanting to advance their basic photography skills to the next level. Alternatively you may just be out of practice and fancy a refresher to get you back on track.

The group meets here at the gallery for refreshments and introductory briefing.  During the practical session, you will be tutored in your camera’s basic functions and settings, and how to use them to the best advantage for the subject you are photographing. The course will be focused mainly on landscape photography, but many of the basic techniques are transferable to all types of photography.

Mark then takes participants out on location either to the North York Moors or Yorkshire Dales. Individual feedback is given throughout the day, providing you with the opportunity to translate what you learn directly into your images.

What to bring:

Just bring the camera equipment that you would normally use.

You should also have weatherproof clothing, plenty of layers and suitable walking shoes/boots for when you are on location. A packed lunch and any food and drink that you need throughout the day will also be needed. Take into account that you could be out until sunset depending on the weather

The workshop group is limited to 4 to enable each participant to receive plenty of help and support.

Agenda:

  • Be tutored in your camera's basic functions and settings
  • Learn how to use your camera to best advantage for the subject you are photographing
  • Receive individual feedback throughout the day
  • Transport for the duration of the workshop

About your tutor:

Tutor Mark Banks is an experienced and talented workshop leader, in addition to being a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society. He has been hosting One-Day workshops for the gallery and assisting Joe with our Residential Workshop programme for the past 10 years.

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.” Joe Cornish
