16e Régiment de Dragons Wavre 1815
French Dragoons were essentially mounted infantry and usually carried a full sized musket. In 1815 the 16th Dragoons formed part of Maurin’s 7th Cavalry Division attached to Gerard’s IV Corps. They took part in the Battles of Ligny on the 16th of June and Wavre on the 18th-19th. Believing that they had defeated the Prussian rearguard at Wavre, they realised too late that the majority of Blu?cher’s forces had eluded them and had reached Waterloo in time to join Wellington and thereby decisively defeat Napoleon.
