"This composition depends on perspective to draw the eye up into the scene, precise positioning to establish a pleasing relationship between the four trees and hill on the horizon, and the right proportions to balance landscape to sky, detail to atmosphere. It also needed the soft light to make it work. The sunlight that arrived shortly afterwards proved too contrasty."
