On the inner side of the Tees Estuary breakwater is Bran Sands known for its bird life, in particular a feeding stop-over by waders during their very long migrations.
The remains of a wooden shipwreck also lie embedded in the sands.
The ships’ name and date of the wreck is unknown however, there is numerous speculation as to its identity.
The wreck can be seen at low tide, however the amount visible depends on sand levels.
The Redcar Wharf cranes can be seen across the sands
