"The printer's art is: to bring the latent image to life (this life is yours to define)."

Joe Cornish

If you are a dedicated photographer who already prints, or have considered printing but feel overwhelmed by the complexity of it, the Printing Masterclass may be for you.

Those familiar with Joe Cornish will know that he is an experienced and passionate printer. During this workshop Joe will pass on his printing knowledge and share his experience to enable you to gain confidence and consistency with your own printing.

You will spend two full days with Joe Cornish here at his gallery in North Yorkshire learning the technique and developing the skills needed to get the best from your images.

The principle objectives are to learn the art of image interpretation, to give confidence and consistency in the print workflow, and to produce great-looking prints on fine art papers. The workshop will include practical demonstrations and a chance for each photographer to print at least one of their images (but more likely three or four).

(The printer will be an Epson and the paper stock is provided by Fotospeed, the same workflow as Joe uses in his own studio).

  • Learn digital printing techniques and refine your skills to get the best from your images
  • Learn the art of image interpretation
  • Gain confidence and consistency in the workflow
  • Produce great-looking prints on fine art papers
  • Enable you to instruct your 3rd party commercial printer to make the perfect print from your image files

You should bring your own laptop, and image files you would like to work on.

Image files should ideally be RAW digital captures (or unprocessed film scans), as well as previously processed tiff or jpeg files from the raws, so that Joe can see how you have approached image interpretation in the past.

You will also be encouraged to bring a small existing print portfolio with you for feedback.

As well as tuition and all materials the workshop includes lunch and refreshments from the Gallery’s delightful cafe.

Participants are asked to organise their own accommodation; gallery staff are happy to help with recommendations
