Ann M Holmes

Ann Holmes is an English photographic artist based in the West Yorkshire Pennines.

Ann started life sketching and painting everything around her, but switched to photography in her teens. Inspired early on by documentary greats such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Sebastiao Salgado, she sought to capture the more fleeting moments of natural and human dramas.

Ann’s photographic journey has continued to this day, through her exploration of traditional film techniques to the more recent digital technologies. Her images aim to capture a certain evocative authenticity and convey something of the movement and sublime emotional response felt at the time that the shutter was deployed.

Ann’s approach is one of critical observation and patient listening; a seeking out of her subject’s unspoken and most poignant narratives. This is often in terms of loss, as featured in her acclaimed 'Nay More' series, and in landscapes featuring slate quarries and mills.

Ann’s work has been published broadly, exhibited widely and has been commended and short-listed for several photographic awards.
